Vintage Konya Carpet / 2'11"x3'9"/ 90x115cm

670.00

Gorgeous, classic-with-a-twist carpet from Central Anatolia’s Konya region. This carpet has a rare dark cornflower blue-lavender-grey ground with a warm red lozenge medallion and several borders, including a beautiful geometric floral, and finished with a looser, abstract floral vine.

Central Anatolia is a crossroads, and long has been. Seljuk-era caravanserais and mosques dot the plateaus. Konya is Rumi’s final resting place, and his tomb a pilgrimage site to this day. Konya is well-known for its high-quality wools and long weaving tradition. High plateaus around Konya center have the ideal climate for sheep (and sheep’s wool.)
