Vintage Eastern Anatolian - Kars Runner / 2'9"x10'8"/ 85x326cm

1,200.00

Lovely, long runner from far Eastern Anatolia’s Kars, right against the current borders with Armenia and Georgia.

Kars has a long history of being over one border or another - Ottoman, Russian, Armenian... Just outside the modern city of Kars is Ani, the ruins of the 11th century Armenian capital. An area of high mountains and plateaus. These non-commercial rugs were made by the people who used them, which makes them authentic expressions of an age-old culture.

This rug is low-pile and supple, with a great raspberry purple ground with darkest black border. A piece that would play well in many interior styles.
